Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 110 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 110 | So as some you know I did my own electrical system from scratch...I followed most of the '51 truck diagram and added the push button from the '54 diagram since I got stuck on the foot starter that I am not using.... I got my truck running but got a problem with the ignition system and need some advise. I am using the original switch (3 positions) with a push button on the side. The alternator is a one wire and the starter has a "R" and an "S" Terminal...250 motor and all 12 volts....Below is how I wired it... The problem is the ignition swicth is powered at all times with or without the key...I can push the button and it will turn the starter on all positions of the ignition switch....it won't shut off by turning the key...I do remove the spark plug wire going to the coil to shut it off...HELP! http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss113/jimenezdesigngroup/electrical.jpg | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | See if this helps. How I wired mine. Ignore the note at the top, that problem was a bad alternator. My push button is spliced into the wire from the switch to the solenoid, and nothing works but the brake lights unless the key is on. EDIT: Here is how I think you need to correct your diagram. Hopefully somebody will critique it to make sure I am not messing with you.

Your original diagram has too many places an unwanted voltage feedback might happen. The 1-wire alternator has its detractors, but other than needing a one-time goose on the throttle after startup, it's the simplest way to make the swap. Good luck on the rewire! Jerry

This is my first electrical system or tryout at any electrical whatsoever but I think with the feedback I can make it work. Thx, | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 110 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 110 | Thank you all. I corrected my electrical as described and it now works perfect..now moving to the turn signals. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | glad it worked. | | |
