Perhaps it is my lack of experience with transmissions.
I have a 1964 Chev Suburban.
So I need to ask some questions. Are there any numbers on the tailpiece that can identify the overdrive (R100-1 W. O. ?.Y.)
The 7 bolts to id whether it is old or new OD trans are on the shifter linkage plate?
I thought I had the original 230 engine in this burb, but after checking the numbers it is a later 250, so perhaps the trans is too.
What else could tell me the vintage?
Also the wiring on the trans, which I assume is to the solenoid is cut. Where should this run to on the dash? to the ignition? or is there another connection at the fuse panel?
Thanks for your time. I will try and answer any questions to clarify, but right now it is dark and gravelly under the burb, so my access is somewhat limited.
Bert.

The shop manual has a wiring diagram which shows all the components of the electrical system. The Saganaw OD trans was available from 66-69 - so you have a later power train which is good. 1st gear is syncro. Fred

Fred Thanks Fred, I seem to have 3 wires at the transmission end, with two connectors broken off the big silver pot, so I will have to try and identify the correct year and get a proper digram. The one I have in my truck book doesn't give me this info - or I am looking for it in the wrong place

Your book should have a wiring schematic in the trouble shooting part of the overdrive section. It just shows where the wires go but does not indicate the color or wire size. If your book does not have an OD section try to find an earlier book. Fred
