Worse yet is all the excellerated wear to the engine from an empty air cleaner letting all that dirt and grit into the motor!

er.. sorry but the oil level was full. Pics taken after I emptied it. I just wanted to show the amount of sludge.

It's pretty incredible isn't it? I've always thought that they do a great job.

I eliminated the mess and started using a paper filter in my oil bath like yours a couple years ago. Not stock but a lot easier to change!

i plan on using my old oil bath cleaner with modern upgrade going to get a 4 barrel small air cleaner, and weld it to the under/inside of the original oil bath and use it on my V-8 lol i wanna keep something from the original under the hood
and everyone just goes and buys a generic chrome cleaner thought original equipment repurposed would be a nice touch

:thumbs_up Daniel. I was wandering around the salvage yard last fall and found an old original 4 barrel oil bath.

That does not look like an excessive amount of dust/ dirt in an oil bath air cleaner. We usually run our John Deere gas and diesel tractor engines 100 hours between Oil, Grease and Filter. We also clean the Oil Baths at that time. They sometimes have a pretty deep accumilation of fine dirt particles depending on the field conditions we have been operating them in. Yours looks like the Optional Oil bath filter of at least 1947 thru 1952.
