Don't know where else to post this but for all classic car/truck motorcycle enthusiast's beware of what has been transpiring in WI the last few years. A small group of elitist's at the DOT have been on a crusade to remove anything remotely a classic from fair use, by stripping registration. Now there is a pair of bills, Senate Bill 464 and Assembly bill 580 that should help rectify idiotic denials of registration like "does'nt have the original AM radio" or bias ply tires. Heads up where you live un-commonsense elist non-sense thrives with apathy.

These bill's are being debated now, and need help to get pulled to vote, so please spread this thru the proper channels. For more info on this look into http://www.alfaheaven.com
Also the dmv is claiming that most comment's on this bill are opposed to it. If in WI call 1-608-261-2575 or email [email protected] Tell her your a WI voter and you support this legislation to protect our personal property fair use valuation and investments.

I have made this a sticky for the week... please keep it on topic about this specific issue/legislation in Wisconsin or we will lock it down.

This kind of politics is about or affects old trucks, so it is allowed as long as everyone minds their manners and stays on topic.

Thanks.

details about this legislation on the SEMA SAN site.

It has a full list of the Wisconsin Assembly Transportation Committee, if one of your Representatives is on that committee, write/call/email them.

I copied and pasted this from an earlier post... it will help you Wisconsin 'Bolters determine who your specific State Representatives are and how to contact them.

Howdy 'Bolters!

It is time for the State Legislatures to start making laws again from sea to shining sea, across much of the Union. A few of them don't start up until February or March, but most of them are at it already.

SEMA SAN makes it simple for you to find out about the automotive related bills being proposed in your State. They also keep you informed about any Federal level bills as well.

Project Vote Smart makes it easy to find out just who your specific elected officials on the State and Federal level are to your geographic location and how to get in touch with them.

SEMA SAN

Look under Legislation, then State or Federal to see what is coming up for consideration in your area or the national level.

(see what SEMA SAN is, down at the bottom of this post.)

If you need to find out who your elected officials are, you can go here, it is easy-peasy:

Project Vote Smart

If you need to look up your nine digit zip code(to use on the site above to determine your elected officials), you can do so at the United States Post Office website under: "look up a zip code" on the left side of the Post Office home page.

If you decide to contact your elected officials via email or through a contact form on their webpage, be sure to include your home address and contact information so that they know you are in their district.

This site has a list of the start/end dates of the legislative sessions nationwide.

Help keep your old truck legal on the road(and in some cases on your property), check out what is going on in your area today.

boris - if you've ever heard of the 'SEMA show' in Las Vegas... that's the same group. They started the SEMA SAN to kinda bring everyone together and keep them informed.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), is a non-profit trade association composed of more than 6,800 member companies including manufacturers and distributors, representing the specialty equipment automotive industry. All combined, the markets add up to over $34 billion in retail business annually. On behalf of our industry, we are fighting to preserve the rights of enthusiasts to use and enjoy their vehicles.

short version : the aftermarket manufacturers of every part you can think of.

Hearing was held Thursday 10 am, many folk's testified in favor, 2 against. DOT still coming up with lame excuses and imaginary senario's on safety. Some legislator's hinted at a possible "Review" Hopefully that would mean a house cleaning. They then began to act "cooperative" which could just be a smoke screen to stall some more. Hopefully this will help clean up this problem and not introduce some more loop holes to be exploited by elitist's who want everything old to be scrapped.

It look's like tough going to get it passed this session but the folk's up front are pushing hard. The DOT actually admitted they have denied collector registration for not having an original "AM Radio"........The Saga continues.

The latest news is it has passed votes, and needs to be brought up for passage by Assembly leader Jeff Fitzgerald [email protected] It has been amended and may only apply to ex-military vehicles not sure on details right now. But it is still a step in the right direction to correct the classic denials by this agency. The agency is basically hostile to anything prior to 68, as they feel you have to prove your vehicle is safe for WI roads regardless of past practice. Countless cars/trucks and motorcycles even scooters were used for military purpose and if they make any connection they are due for denial. I believe separate legislation need's to be brought up to further cleanse this harrasment, however this session ends this week and it's all we have on the table for now.

update on this for you Wisconsin folks...

call or write/don't call or write as you see fit.

Reads like all the old/custom/hobby vehicle people out there need to organize and get ready for next year to get a good bill that is fair for everyone.

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (UPDATE)

Wisconsin Legislature Approves Amended Motor Vehicle Registration Rights Bill; Moves to Governor

Legislation (S.B. 462) that originally sought to provide legal registration to hobby vehicles with a clear title, required safety equipment and in good working order was passed by the Wisconsin Senate and House and now moves to the governor for his signature and enactment into law. Due to opposition from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the bill was amended to now only affect Former Military Vehicles. Several pro-hobby provisions of the bill with application to all hobby vehicles were eliminated. While the amended bill does not solve the many problems associated with registering a hobby car in Wisconsin, it does provide incremental improvement to the rules governing Former Military Vehicles and is still worthy of our support.

We Urge You to Contact Governor Scott Walker (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request His Support for S.B. 462

S.B. 462 restores regular registration options to Former Military Vehicles, like those which are available to civilian vehicles. Operation under that registration remains subject to Wisconsin Equipment Standards.

S.B. 462 does not change an owner’s ability to register Former Military Vehicles for Historic Military Vehicle (HMV) Registration, which allows operation to parades or shows.

DON’T DELAY! Please contact Governor Scott Walker immediately to request his support for S.B. 462.
