I came across new parking lamp assemblies that have a single wire (original) or double contact for turn signals. My truck's lights only had a single wire, but also has a turn signal switch. How would I wire the new lamps with 2 wires?
Also, when checking the voltage at the wires' junction plate, the park lamp wires aren't powered when the headlight switch is "on". Only when the switch is half way or "park" position. Aren't these lights supposed to be on with the headlights?

No, they are just as you typed, "park"ing lamps. They are wired just like the tail lights, that is, one wire is for the parking
light and the other for the brighter, turn signal. The original wiring did not have a provision for turn signals they were an
add-on so a separate wire has to be added to the loom for each side.

Early SignalStat turn signal switches (and other brands) flashed the single wire park lamps and tail lights, just not very brightly. An additional wire was not required. I believe that the switches had only four wires.

Later SignalStat switches with more wires (8?) were for brighter dual filament park and tail lights.

Not sure if your single filament turn signal switch will work with double filament bulbs.

Yep - park lights did not come on with the headlights. Don't know when that changed.

The signal switch with 4 wires requires separate light assemblies for the signals. A 7 wire uses the brake lights and the brighter side of a 2 filament bulb in front. An 8 wire uses the park light single filament bulbs and the brake light bulbs.

I used the dual filament bulbs in my parking light.....Have most of ya'll wired the parking lamps so that they are only on when the switch is half way out or to the same terminal as the headlights are on. I just finished the wiring and thought I wired something wrong because the parking lights when off when the head lights came on.

As stated above, The park lights are for parking. They do not come on when the headlights are on if wired properly.

Cletis, thanks for the correction - I shoulda counted the number of wires required for turn signals for single filament park lamps and brake lights. Yes, needs more than four wires.

Here is one of the patents for the switch that uses single filament park lights. "... the 'stop' and parking lamps of a vehicle can be used as turn indicating signals. Thus, the need for extra signal lamps for turn indication, and their associated wiring is eliminated."

Can oldchevytrucks' signal switch for single filament park lights work with double filament park lights?
