Well after a couple of years on a timeout, I'm finally back to working on my 53 3100. I already got the frame ready and grafted a Monte Carlo front end on it. Previously, the frame had been stripped by an aquantance that was helping out. Unfortunately he lost a lot of items including the rear cab shackles. I found a place where I can buy them though I couldn't find the mounting hardware for them. I also already purchased the front mounting kit.
So my question, does anyone have any guidance on purchasing these items or what else I may need as well as installation advice? Also, I saw some talk about not using shackles and using something a little more modern but wasn't sure if this was something I should consider. I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to this truck so I'm learning as I go and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Tks

If you search on cab mounts or frame stiffening I think you'll find a lively discussion that was had a while back regarding frame flex. The older frames flex quite a bit especially in torsion and so the spring mounts are required to keep the bolts from ripping though the sheet metal and or wrinkling the cab. If you stiffen the frame while you've got it apart (and aren't worried about keeping it all original) then with adequate stiffening you could skip the springs and go to a solid mount.

Here are some pics from my 50
...pic...

You will need to get the fasteners and make a threaded plate for the inside of the cab.

If you do get replacement shackles make sure they are the right ones. I believe the larger trucks shackles look the same but the mounting bolt locations are different and they are wider.

You will need to get the clearance called out for in the manual correct, otherwise you may have problems lining up the front sheet metal.
The Manual call out for shims, if needed.

Good Luck
