I recently purchased a canadian chev truck with a replaced motor. can anyone decipher the engine code for me thanx doug engine # 283185

Be patient. There are sevral Canadian Stovebolters here who will likely help you. In the meantime, you might find some info in the Old Car Manual web site. Just google it.
