| | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 98 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 98 | I got my 66 SB started that was sitting about 12 years, then got water in the oil. i pulled off the valve cover, to start to pull the head. i noticed that the water came through what looks like a small freeze plug,that had a small rotted hole. my question is can i replace just those plugs and what are they called so i can buy some. because the head gasket looks great, no leaks.any suggestions

If they leak it should not get down in the oil. You can buy them at any parts store by size. They are called freeze plugs but the real nome is core plugs.

These are very small one on the head itself. Not the bigger ones on the block. I'm not sure either. It's been a long time since I worked on those 6 cyl. I know there are 2 freeze plugs on the side of the head that are only acessable with the manifolds off.
