I have a 2000 silerado with a 4.3 v6, has 120,000 miles and never been tuned up, (other than changed plugs at (45,000)miles.Change oil every 3000 miles and air and fuel filters regularly. Now the question, Does this engine have a distributor cap and rotor like older engines? With all the electronic stuff I don't know, I hate to even open the hood, but it's about time to change the cap and rotor if there is one. Anyone know?
Thanks,
Tommy

You know, I'm not sure on those. The ones I had did have the distributors with the usual wires and such. Yours may have coil packs. If so, I would change the wires and put in either Bosch +4 or +2 plugs or NGK V Power plugs. I have ran V powers for many years and never had a bad plug. They wrok very well. The +4 are relatively new but they burn real clean and lowers emissions. You have a good truck. Nothing like a good ole' Silverado. That engine should last up to 300k or more. Its just a 350 less two pistons. Same bore, stroke and valve train. I have had them and like them. Wouldn't mine having another 4.3 L. Just look towards the back of the engine to see if there is a distributor or not. I wish you well or your tune up. Henry

OOoops, I forgot that if you change the wires, I would use MSD Red Wires. They are the best as far as I am concerned and many racers also agree. I have them on my full size Chevy Pick up and love them. They have the least resistance per foot than any other wire. I have a new set coming from Summit Racing for my new engine thats going in the pick up. I'm putting in a rebuilt 250 inline six, bored .0040 over that has about 15-20 more hp than the 350. It will be better on fuel and leaves lots of room under the hood. I love the ole' Chevy/GMC inlines. Nothing like them except the ole' International inlines. Henry

tommy your truck does have a distributor cap and rotor. the new ones look kind of funny but never the less some where in that mess of sensors and wiring is a distributor. i was thinking that it wouldnt have one because they have crank shaft possition sensors now a days but i looked on gm dealer world (gm technical web site i use at work) and it showed that there was a distributor and rotor. hope that is helpfull. one thing i do know is that gm only recomends replacment of the plugs every 100k miles. (i am not gm though,.. as we say at work.. they are in the market to sell you a new car,... we are here to keep your current car on the road)

Not racing the truck, daily driver. It's starting to sputter a little when you take off from a stop. Since it's been 75,000 miles since I changed the plugs, I figured I'd change them again and do the cap and rotor. This has been a great truck, not one thing on it has been changed, still has original brakes, They've been checked and I was told still have plenty of pad left. I just hate to spend 20 grand on a new one. I'm not hard on a vehicle, so I figure another 20/25 thousand miles and I'll think about a new one.
Thanks for the answers,
Tommy
