Ok, whats the trick to installing a new gas tank neck filler grommet on a 54 GMC Truck! how hard can it be!!

Are you first putting the grommet into the body opening, and then running the filler tube through the installed grommet?

I tried to get the neck out but it will not budge from the hoses even though i took the clamps off. The entire inside hoses and neck appear brand new. wow! thanks for any advice.

you won't get the grommet over the outer wide part of the fill neck .... those hoses inside are special fuel resistant parts and quite tough - need to grab each end one at a time with some pliers and work them a bit to break loose before the filler will come out, still with effort

Thanks Red58, I appreciate the help. I will get my high blood pressure pants on and commence to pulling. I was thinking of using a little soap on them hoses to try and persuade them but think they are more water tight than a submarine. NASA could learn a lot from them hoses!!
