First question: The rear main seal for the 1960 261 cu. in. motor is shown in the manual as a rope seal, Is there a neoprene seal available or will I need to get another rope seal?

Second: external gaskets, In particular the valve cover, lifter gallery, and oilpan, are these gaskets the same size as the 235 cu. in. motor or specific to the 261?

There should be a neoprene seal available for that engine. Your local parts store shouldn't have any problems getting one.

Mike,

First question: I think I used the neoprene seal on my 1960 261 (both styles of seals came in the gasket set). Wait to hear a confirmation that this is possible/correct.

Second question: yes, same-year 235s and 261 would use the same external gaskets (except, maybe, the thermostat gasket).
