What is the approximate weight of a complete Stovebolt motor with everything on it includeing the flywheel clutch and bellhousing?

I will be going to pick up my 261 this coming week, the weight will determine if I take my lighter or heavier duty trailer. The smaller trailer has 12" wheels and is probably good for 900 lbs. and the bigger one has 15" 10 ply tires and can handle a full ton. It'll be a 12 to 1,400 mile round trip.

Guess I'm looking for opinions on what trailer to take too.

go to search and ask for weight of a 261, I know that a 235 with a flywheel weight over 600 lbs. Hopes this helps

certainly don't weigh a ton!! engine weights here - don't think I'd take a loaded toy-wheeled trailer 1200 miles at highway speed

My father in law has been dragging around two four wheelers on those little tires for 20 years. Those are also the same tires on most pop-up campers. All that being said, I see no reason the smaller trailer can't do the job and do it well.

Put in the back of a pickup and strap it down and go.

There's a cap on my truck so there is no good way to get the motor in and out of the bed that's why I'm taking a trailer.

Man, I would find a way to put it in the back of the pickup and get it out, lay on side if necessary. In the bed would be way easier than towing a trailer.

I'll say..... Take the trailer! Trailers are fun, and easy to load; you'll feel just like a big-rig, except little-er.

If taking the cap off is not an option,you will have to take the trailer.

Since it is a six could lay it on is side on a pallet and slide it in with a cherry picker. Drain all the fluids out so none will spill out.

I don't have a cherry picker at home to get it out of the truck. I swap motors so seldom that I just rent one when I need it and try to keep the rental down to one day.


The motor will stay in the trailer for awhile and then get lifted out with a truck crane on another old truck I have and then get put on my engine stand and put in my work shop so I can clean it , replace the seal and gaskets and then paint it.
