The building that is being considered to house the collection is the old museum building. There needs to be a large roll up door installed to allow access for the trucks, this is being assessed today. Once this and other costs are evaluated the proposal will go back to council for a final decision. I will keep you all informed when this will take place and I think it would be very helpful to the cause if a large group showed up to that council meeting to show support. | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 | I'd just love to be in charge of marketing and promotions when they are getting ready to open... if promoted correctly this museum could really be something and I can see a LOT of people wanting to check it out! | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 70 | I'll find out if there are any positions open Trev, but seeing as the museum has no money yet, I'm sure all these positions will be on a volunteer basis for now. I would love to be in charge of acquisitions....once there is a bank account.
There are other things happening in Cloverdale, with the Heritage Railway and the proposed street car running on 176th St. from the FVHR station at #10 to the fairgrounds the Truck Museum will be in an excellent location at the north end of the street car line.

I loved going into the shop in Poco. I even would stop by on my way to work sometimes to reference some of the stuff on their telephone truck. It's close to the same era as mine. Please keep us informed. If they ever get like a volunteer work crew to help fix up the place, I'm off work this year, sort of. I used to be promotions and marketing director of a local company, designed their newspaper ads, flyers, came up with contests and promotions for them and had a blast doing it all... I can see helping these guys get the museum going with a few key promotions for free as long as they cover expenses... If they create a great venue to bring people to and it is given the launch it deserves there is no reason this shouldn't work better that it has before and be a big success... I think I can help them out... | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 139 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 139 | what's with the cake Trev ? Did we miss your "B" day ?

Kept it pretty low key this year... lunch with a friend, dinner with Celine, came home and consumed much of a bottle of wine and tomorrow are going to go down to the same place we had my birthday thing last year to sing a few songs if you're interested in joining us for whatever reason although this won't really be a "birthday party"... we're just going to sing and have drinks (and maybe a little cake too)

Assuming the collection is as we saw it the last time at it's old home and all the trucks that were there are still there what would the approximate combined HP of all those trucks be?
As I said, I'll explain later... anybody? | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 70 | HP, less than 1000 would be my guess. Here's a link to an article in a local newspaper. For any interested in the truck museum, there is an open house for the Surrey Heritage Society on Thursday, Feb. 16th at the Sullivan Hall starting at 7pm. There is also a fundraiser at Fraser Downs on Friday, March 2nd. | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 | Is the meeting open to the public or only truck club guys? Any idea? Thanks for the educated guess on the HP... | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 70 | The meeting is opened to the public, I'm pretty sure they're wanting to add new members to the Society. | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 460 | Sorry I couldn't get to this but if anybody did, let us know what happened... | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,972 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,972 | Hey Greengrass, where can we find info on the fundraiser?

Tickets are $60.00 each and the surplus funds raised will go directly to the Surrey Heritage Society. These funds will help cover the costs of some reno's to the building to allow a large roll-up door to be installed. The SHS has already raised over $10,000.00 from corporate sponsors to help pay these costs. The Society will be at the city hall March 12th for a council meeting to determine if the city will be in favour of supplying the building and related costs of running the museum until the time it pays for itself. | | |
