I've tried two different vendors in hoping to find the correct windshield wipers for my 1954 3100 1/2 Ton Chevy Pickup. They both sent me setups in which the blade travels above the windshield. Has anyone else had this problem and found a resolution?

Howdy.

A problem I had on my 1965 c10 when I bought it... the wiper arms were not the stock ones for a 1965 c10. OOooops. I'm still not sure what they are off of. The originals ones, from what I read didn't work so great anyway.

So I mention this only because you want to make sure that the arms on there are for your truck first. You can look the in gallery pages and photos to compare.

Now... check out these two sites:

billy bob 1955 1st series chevy - LAROKE

and

1954 chevy - Alan Horvath

Both are Stovebolters... and they document lots and lots of information about their '54-'55 trucks on their websites.

Good luck!

Here's my tutorial about installing an electric wiper unit in my '54 ... and there's info about wiper blades and where to get them, too:
http://www.AlanHorvath.com/54chevy/wiperarms.php

The main thing, really, is to determine the length of the wiper blade ... everything else is about the style of arms you have.

I ran into the problem in '07. Took me awhile to find my log entry addressing the problem after Woogeroo PM'd me regarding your problem. Here's the pertinent excerpt from my log entry.

Quote
In the previous log entry I posted on monday, I documented that the eleven inch windshield wiper blades for BillyBob were too long and getting caught under the gasket at the top of the windshield. I jerry-rigged the wiper blades by cutting 1/4" off the offending ends and crimping the other ends so that they would not fall apart as a temporary solution. One of BillyBob's fans at American Classic Truck Parts read the log entry and sent a pair of ten inch blades that fit perfectly! For those of you '54 - '55 1st Series Chevy and GMC truck owners who have run into the same problem of the eleven inch blades being too long, the American Classic Truck part number is "WW129" and the description is "47-53 WIPER BLADE TRICO MODERN NORMAL LENGTH 10 INCHES".
