I have a 1958-62 [3764476] 235 block with pistons stamped .040 . I bought a new set of rings (supposedly .040 over) and they are small. end gap 3/16" when put into cylinder. Aluminum pistons. New rings are not as wide as old rings. Any ideas?

Hy joe apple, welcome, it sounds like you have been supplied the wrong parts, either they were packaged incorrectly, or someone ordered the wrong parts, good luck sorting it out.

I second that. My new pistons for my 216 took thinner rings too.

Looks like I was sold the wrong rings. I looked up the part number in a Grant brand piston ring catalog and it is listed for a different engine with smaller diameter cylinders. Thanks for the input.
