Anybody had good luck with one of the vendors defroster hoses? There seems to be a bunch of them and in different types of materials.

I haven't seen anyone that sells two diameters of hoses in one pack.

I've had cloth defroster hoses from Jim Carter, The Truck Shop, and Chevs of the 40's. They are all pretty much the same, just different ID ... 1-3/4" and 2". The reason that I had so many is that I bought the wrong diameter. I don't have the hoses clamped or taped to the outlets and vents. They are holding OK.

My truck had plastic hoses on it when I bought it. They were held in place with duct tape, so I don't know if they slipped off easily, or if the tape was there for insurance.

On my '54 Fresh Air heater, both legs of the "Y" outlet on the heater case are 1-3/4" OD. The passenger defroster vent is 1-3/4" OD. But the drivers defroster vent is 2" OD. I have a rubber collar for one leg of the 1-3/4" OD Y vent so that I can slip a 2" ID hose over it to supply the 2" OD driver vent.

Otherwise, a 1-3/4" ID hose will fit INSIDE the 2" OD drivers vent and hold pretty well.

The '51 and '54 Accessories Installation Manuals show the rubber collars on various ends of the hose. Be sure to measure your vents and heater outlets.

I'm confused. Are you asking about heater hose that runs from the water pump to the heater? The 90° elbow hose inside the heater from the core to the heater control valve? Or the duct hose that runs from the heater box to the plenum at the windshield defroster?

- For the second, you can find it at a FLAPS or here at American Classic Truck Parts. They also have adapters for 2" hose to be used with a 1-3/4" outlet.
- For the third, I got mine at Old Air Products but the ACTP link I show above also has them.

1947-53 defroster hoses (with reducers, if needed).

I cannot find the thread discussing where one is larger than the other and the different sizes. I assume that I have a 53 heater that gets its intake from the side of the cab, has two different size hoses up to the defroster vents, and a cable from the left side of the driver to the heater box.

I just want to make sure the hose kit Tim notes is the right one.
