I have a 53 panel and want to put in a 216 I found. It is a column shift. Will a 50 car trans fit or do I have to use a truck trans? Thanks,
Eric

Hy edub10068, is this a package (engine and transmission) from a car? The car bellhousing uses different mounts than the truck, I think, I know the transmission mount to the bellhousing is a much smaller pattern. I think the car and truck transmissions are the same overall length though, hope that helps.

216 is from a truck and so is bell housing but using a trans from a car. Was just unsure if the trans would be the same?

Before 1955 car and truck transmissions used a different bolt pattern on the flywheel housing.

So if I change the flywheel along with trans it should work?

No. The different bolt pattern is bellhousing to transmission. Not flywheel to engine.

The flywheel housing with a transmission will bolt to the engine, but the rear engine mounts and clutch linkage will be totally different. There are lots of the 48 to 54 truck transmissions around. Why not find one and save yourself a lot of trouble. Do you still have the 216 out of the pickup? You will want to use stuff like the oil pan off of it on the passenger engine if you use it.

One of the best things about these 53 and older trucks is the beefy mounts bellhousing to crossmember. The cars has very wimpy light weight mounts at the bellhousing. The 216 should bolt in fine, just stick with the truck parts from flywheel back.
Best of luck
