I have a 62 chevy two ton truck a guy is trying to sell me and says it has a 350 engine in it. If it is a 350 it is not stock right? It also has a 5 speed transmission in it. What v8 engines came out in these trucks?

Hy 79broncoowner, everything below the eighty one series was either a 283 or a 327 as far as V8s are concerned, hope that helps.

Thanks I thought 283 or 327 was the right engine. I am going to look at the truck today maybe I can get some numbers off of the engine

I think it is a 350 that someone put in this truck. It has a rebuilt tag on the front of the engine. This is a complete truck with no bed and it is a c 60. What would this truck be worth without an engine. IT has a 5 speed transmission and a 2 speed rearend. The body is fair.

In the Spokane area a non running 62 c60 with a fair body would be worth scrap value.

79,

Why did the owner take the motor out...is the transmission bad?

Around here the scrap man will deduct about $30 per tire, so factor that in on your bid.

So, lets do some simple math...if the truck weighs about 5000 pounds (Cab and Chassis) per the book, less motor your at about 4500 pounds at $0.0875 per pound thats $393.75 less $180 for the six tires means it's worth about $213.75 scrap here in Maryland.

Your actual weight and scrap price may vary.

Hope this helps...

THe engine is still in the truck. What I meant was that somewere alone the line a 350 was installed in the truck. He said the engine was good but has not been run in about 3 years. I was going to buy the truck and pull the 350 then sell or scrap the rest. I hate to see it go to the scrap yard if someone could use so parts off of it.

OOPS, my bad, I misunderstood...

I'm happy your trying to save what you can, they don't make some of this stuff anymore.

Take care...

Make sure and save the 5 speed, it might even be an OD. Probably some Clark or NP.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.

'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
