It has the 3 speed floor shift transmission. I was wondering if this 3 speed is the same transmission as the column shift 3 speed or if it is a different beast. If anyone has a link to any information about this transmission that would be great too. A later model has a different bolt pattern. The 47 2nd series were using the SM420 right? It doesn't have the drivers side PTO side cover a SM420 would have. I haven't driven it yet to find out where reverse is because the gas tank is out for some TLC. I was feeling around with the shifts today and to my knowledge reverse in the SM420 is towards you and back and there is no gear there. On the SM 420 you push down on the shifter and put into reverse position. My transmission has a PTO plate.
It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.

I did not know that the 47 second series had different transmissions than the later AD pickups. My shifter does not have the reverse lockout. A week before I got this truck I looked at another 47 and it had a shifter I hadn't seen before. From the description of your 4 speed I think thats what it might have been. (It came with the truck when I bought it.)Part suppliers will state '47 - '53 but in regards to transmissions it's actually '48 - 53. I purchased a rebuild kit form Novak's thinking I had an SM 420 but had to return it. I supposed because '47 was a 'crossover' year there was some carry over of parts from the pre-'47's.
