Hello guys
First post here- have a 51 suburban, or a lot of rust that once was a 51 suburban:)
Question-the side windows, can I get window gaskets that are for solid (one piece) glass? Where? Any help appreciated.
Merry Christmas!

if all you need is the rubber seal, check with a local auto glass place, they should have a profile by the foot that will work, which is what any of the vendors will be selling

Duke daddy also if you are going to have someone put glass in they will have the seals that they like to use. So ask before you buy. Ask me how I know smile

Thank u both- great ideas!
Also the outside side window garnish molding/trim is pretty well gone. Can I just use the rubber window gasket material? (Have the side windows look like the windshield-no trim) I really like the pain-jane look. Not into chrome too much.
Thank you guys again! This website/forum is manna!

Hi Dukedaddy,

I see you're in NC. I'm not sure which part you're in, but you have two local sources you can also check out. One is steel rubber. They are pretty much the leader IMO for weather stripping and window parts, however they are expensive. Also, Clester's may have a source as well. walking Steelrubber's warehouse is pretty neat

Sorry I was away for a while. See my pictures of the side glass on my photobucket. I had a local glass guy cut a one piece glass from a template I made. He caters to vintage cars and he used a rubber moulding seal that fit around seam in the window and had a rubber insert that held it inplace. If you need further pictures send me a PM and I will shoot some for you.

Thought I'd let people know that the gentleman on ebay (truckmanparts) sells one-piece glass to be installed with his own seals, which are a glue in type. They're not designed for the two piece or self-sealing weatherstripping on the pinch weld.

This does allow you to use the outer garnish(if you have it), and maintain a more original look though.

Tim here was his response

"Dear bigtony55,

you need the outer trim so it will hold them in place. that trim and the rubber make it a solid fit. thanks manny

Tony, I don't see why not. The drain system is designed (poorly) to remove water that accumulates in the slider window channels. Drain Unfortunately they did not figure in leaves and dirt, this all goes into a short hose that drops it into the bottom sheet metal. When the debris sits for awhile it ends up clogging the small drain hole in the sheet metal, hence we get lots of rust out in these areas. There are no other drain systems that use this channel, so closing it up and sealing it will not be an issue.

Hello.. did you end up closing it up? I'm in the same situation myself at this moment. Are there any issues if those channels are gotten rid of? Or if anyone else knows? Thank you.

How will you drain the water if you have no drain holes?

My guess is that rust-out around the base of those windows was/is due to plugged drain holes (no drainage).

I also make sure the exit "holes" at the bottom of the insides remain clear for full/final drainage.

He has posted another recent thread on this topic.

You might try a Private Message to bigtony55 and/or GMONIZ (but, neither member has posted in a few years)?
