Have a 42-46 clamped rear fender to it and the tire sits way back in the fender opening was this common the pics that I have seen most of them look like the tire is pretty well center in the wheel opening.

Wheels are not centered on stock trucks for whatever reason. A lot of guys ( me included ) slide the axle back to center the wheel in the opening. I am running a TH 350 Auto trans, and had the length available on the driveshaft spline.

Bruce is correct, but some trucks (and cars, too) seem to look fine, while others look like a butcher job. My truck looks OK, and I won't change it, but I have seen others I could not live with!!
Only the long gone engineers know why....... smile

If your axle is that far aft I would suspect it is not stock. We need to identify what you have before we can identify problems. Post a link to pictures.

wdombrowicki, that is definitely not a stock rear location. Probably a swap. Another solution that I have seen was moving the rear fenders on the box a couple of inches. Don't recall if or how they modified the running boards.......it was a Ford. Let us know what you end up doing.

what are the chances someone turned the springs around.i would think it would be worth measureing the springs before making any big dicision.one way or the other you need a new driveline

The measurements are correct I have a 115" wheel base I was wondering if they made a longer running board for a 3/4 ton truck because the 3/4 ton truck is listed as being 8" longer. But I didn't think that the 3/4 ton truck came with a box.

Looks to me that you have the wrong running boards. If the rear end is in stock location it align with the curve in your frame. Plus looking at your pictures the fender mounting holes are way off. My boards measure 83" on the outside tip to tip.

It looks to me that the rear of that fender needs to be propped up by about 3 more buckets. I can see the bed holes above the fender. Perhaps try placing a bolt in the upper hole and it won't looks so far off.

He posted under paint and body also. His boards measure 79" they're not going to work unless they're lengthen or replaced. A full picture of the truck and running boards or even a shot of the undercarriage would help but I believe his boards are the culprit.

The running boards on my 1/2 ton measure 83" as well. If you add 4" to your 79", plus lift the rear of the fender into the right position, you are getting a lot closer ?

My boards are 79" so someone must have cut them off. All though they look unmolested. Can anyone tell me how far the fender sits off the ground the bucket is the same height as the running board so I assumed that would be where the bottom of the rear fender would also sit . Also would it be ok to slide the rear end 2" foward without hurting the driving capabilities of the truck. I really don't want to try and find another pair of boards for the ones I have are excellant other than being to short. Thanks Wayne

My 3/4 ton 1946 came with a box. And yes the running boards are longer also.

IMO I would fit the fenders in the correct mounting holes and adjust as needed. What are your plans for the truck? Stock, modified etc. If you are staying stock how do you move the diff forward with an enclosed drive shaft? I know how hard a primo set of boards are to come by but I wouldn't base my build on them. I would rather spring for a correct fit. JMO. I guess it depends on what you want to accomplish with your truck. Good luck with your build. I'll bet those boards came off an earlier model though.

the truck had 47-54 rear fenders on it when I got it so the holes in the box aren't correct unless the box came off a 47-54. I going to try to make it as stock as possible. Gmans looked at your pics and it looks like your rear fenders angle up I've seen trucks with the fenders up higher but I would think that the bottom of the fenders should line up with the bottom of the running boards and front fenders. The drive shaft was converted to an open shaft before I bought it so shorting up a little would be easy. But I worry about the the functionality of the truck if I do that.thanks wayne

How wide is your bed?
1939= 46.5 inches wide
1940-1947.1= 48.5 inches
1947.2-1987= 50 inches

There is something about the radius of that running board that doesn't look right either. More pics might clear things up. It's really hard to tell from the 1 pic provided.

There are fiberglass fenders and running boards available. Steel boards and fenders are a bit harder to find.

I deffinitly learning more than I think I wanted you guys are a load of information. Measured the box it is from a 47-54 did a little checking an found that the 37-40 has a 2" shorter wheelbase I'm guessing that is where the running boards come from. Now I have to figure out what the heck to do????????????

Search and destroy! LOL. Don't feel bad, When I brought my basket case home it was sitting on a AD frame with a Pacer front end and a Dana 30/35 3:55 spool under it. Nothing would mock up right so I started over and sold what I couldn't use. Buy, sell and trade to get what you need to make her right for you. There's a wealth of knowledge here as I found out when I started my project. Have fun with it after all it's just nuts and bolts.

The radius is wrong on the running boards. 40 uses the same rear fenders as 46. 39 rear fenders are 1 inch wider than 40-46 fenders. The running boards are likely from a 47-54.

You have been alot of help I guess what I'll do is get the engine back in and running then get the cab and front done tnen decide what to do with the box and running boards my best guess would be to replace both. I'm sure I am going to need alot of help with this 46 before I'm finished and do appreciate all the information at least most of the mystery is solved. Thanks Wayne
