what can I replace my 1950 3/4 ton rear axle with? will S-10 axles fit? if so what years. I want to upgrade my bakes.

Evac> Your best bet is to find a Ford or Dodge van rearend. I believe a 73 on up GM 14 bolt will work also. They'll be a little, wider but they should work. You'll have to do some fabricating by cutting off the old and welding on new spring and shock mounts. If you want to upgrade your brakes on all 4 corners, try finding a 1/2 ton front axle assembly and a later model 6 lug rearend.

I'm with Whitedog on this, having helped do a Dana 60 swap on a '49 3800. The Dodge version is a perfect fit. It would be much better that going to an S10 or passenger car rear with much smaller brakes.

I used a rear end from a 78 Lincoln. It is a 9" ford and had disc brakes. It was almost the same width as the stock rear end.

thanks for the input...looking for a 1/2 ton front end now. got my fingers crossed I can find one
