| | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 64 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 64 | I was gifted a decent long WB bed from a '50 that I would like to put on my '41 AL 3/4 ton. I have some concern about how the 50" width would look. The '41 is 48.5" wide, so it would be 3/4" wider on each side. I have toyed with the idea of cutting down the width of the sills and using a new front panel and tailgate. The side panels and stake pockets are in good shape as are the sills. Bed strips and side angles are gone...Any thoughts from out there? I am a decent welder and fabricator and don't have the money for a whole new bed. (the truck was a flatbed)

The cross members and front panel aren't too bad as replacements. I missed out at the junkyard on a 50's longbed once. I think I will cut it down, though I was told by the good folks at MAR-K that the tailgates/chains are different on the '50 and the '41 and the repo tailgate for a '41 might not work on a '50 box. Anybody know about this?

I misspoke--the 41-53 chain assembly is all the same and the tailgate height is the same.
