It appears that someone replaced the U-joint at the back of my 37 truck's transmission with a passenger U-joint (6-tooth speedo drive gear on shaft), but then put the 12-tooth truck speedometer driven gear back in. This setup ground up the teeth on the speedometer driven gear, since it wasn't a direct mesh with the passenger gear on the U-joint.
I have a good 19-tooth passenger driven gear that would work with the 6-tooth U-joint gear, but will need either an adapter or new set of truck gears to get the right speed on the dash.

If the gears mesh and the speedo works, but is not correct, all you need to do get a GPS, record the speedo readings at 10, 20, 30, 40 and they can create an adapter to make it work.
