Hi all…I just bought a mostly restored 46 ¾ ton pickup and found out that it looks like I may have a small leak in the rear freeze plug on the back of the block. I am looking for some advice to stop the leak, rather than pull Transmission off and replace the plug. Several friends (I hope) said to buy some good radiator stop leak a mix it with the coolant. Any problems with that or is there a better solution.

Thanks…John

Stop leak is a band-aid. If one is rusted through others can't be far behind. Might as well do it right the first time.

Stop leak is good stuff. Try it. It's cheap. If it doesn't fix the problem, not much lost.

I agree with Cletis though, that if the problem is rust-through, it may not work, or will work only for a short time.

If you do replace the plugs make sure they are made of brass, not steel.
