So i have settled on a 1954 GMC truck. I want to go total resto but with a few modern changes. This is my first truck and was wondering if anyone has taken one from 6 vlt to 12vlt and what i needed to do? Is it difficult?

6 volt starters will work with 12 volts if you don't crank too long. I prefer installing 12 volt field coils. Your 54 should have a 6 volt, 6 bolt flywheel which is a very much sought after item. You could probably trade for a 12 volt flywheel and starter and possibly get a little money out of the deal on top of it.

Ive been running a 6volt starter with a 12volt system for 21 years now, with no troubles.
