Anyone ever use this one from Harbor? http://www.harborfreight.com/stud-welder-dent-repair-kit-98357.html A day without laughter is a day wasted- Charlie Chaplin When wrestling a grizzly bear, you have to keep at it until the bear gets tired, not when you get tired. 1948 Chevy 2-Ton | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 2,951 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 2,951 | I have never used or seen one myself. I think a few YouTube videos are available giving demonstrations. Criticisms have been that the slaphammer is of low quality, but the spot welder works good.
Customer reviews gave it a 4.8 out of 5 stars and all 5 responders said they'd recommend it to a friend. I also considered buying one but the timing is not right for me since I won't need it for another few months. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 | I have a slide hammer already. Maybe I can use that one instead of the Harbor Freight. I'm going to take a chance with it. Looks just like the one offered at my local tool center, but like 1/3 the price. I bought two of the Ultrasonic cleaners and I could have gotten as much vibration out of a transistor radio as I get out of those units, they're usless. DG

It would arc before I pushed the button. I took it back last week and got a rain check because they are on sell for $99. The store did not get any in on their truck on Tuesday and online is on back order. I drove 45 min to the next closest store because they only had two left. That was Wed 12/14/2011. I returned it last night 12/16/2011. The studs just kept pulling off after one pull with the slide hammer. Slide hammer is the biggest piece of junk like everyone says. If you really want to buy one keep your receipt so you can return it. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 | I took a look at it and am holding off on buying one. The slide hammer does look poorly constructed. For what I need to do, I think I can get away from using it. I did pick up a compression tester, and an automotive multitester. I don't trust my 35 year old dwell meter. It works well.
