I just pulled my transmission for a rebuild.
4 speed 1952 Chev half ton
the number cast on the case is 3761980
the number casted on the case cover is 591568
this number dont match the 48-54 sm420 transmission
Can anyone tell me what this transmission is by the 2 casting numbers ??
My master parts book goes to 1955 and this
number is not listed
thanks in advance if someone can help identify ??

I don't have casting numbers but might have information based on the treansmission ID. It is located on the rear of the case just below the cover on the left side (4-speed).

Just to be sure - do you have a closed driveshaft (torque-tube on '54 or earlier) or open driveshaft ('55 and later).

It has been changed to an open driveline
It looks like t1626 but it is hand stamped
and very lightly can not read well.
the casting number on the case is 3761930
not 80 my error.

If reverse is to the left and down, it should be a sm420. To the right is a sm465
