on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! The guy I bought it from told me it did not have a shift knob. I told him not to worry because I have 2 - 4 speed knobs. Well when I got the transmission the shifter does not have any sign of threads on it to have a knob screw onto it. My neighbor said that these trucks had a pinch clamp on the side that held the shift knob on with. Is this true or did the threads get cut off somewhere in the past?

I had to cut and realign mine and them buggers are made out of some hard stuff. If you can't cut threads into it maybe you can weld something softer onto it. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Those levers were forged from a high alloy steel otherwise they would have been bent all over the place with that much leverage avalable. I'd have to agree with your last idea Vern, welding a bolt would now doubt be the easiest. Before you could thread the tip it would have to be machined to size other wise getting a die on it would be an impossibility. DG

The shift knobs were maroon for just three or four years. IF I remember correctly they were maroon for 51, 52, and 53. Plus all the knobs were maroon, shift, hood vent, door handle, ash tray, and the rest of them on the dash. The hardest one for me to find was the maroon ash tray knob. | | |
