doing some rust repair, the 3 vertical ribs on the back of the cab found some old gunk on the back side of each rib, I was wondering if that is some kind of adhesive so the back sheetmetal sticks to the rib, any help would appreciated

I had similar adhesive/caulk there also. Mine was more of a 60 year old dried up piece of rubber. Unknown reason/name/usage. Maybe for vibration

i had same stuff on my 46.the welds on those strips had broke at the floor so i removed that rubber type material rewelded at the floor then tack welded the strips to the back of the cab
