Zenith made some of the very best single barrel carburetors ever built, at any price, at any time, anywhere in the world. Since they made so many different, it is important to select one the proper size for the engine.

Rochester made some of the very best TWO and FOUR barrel carburetors ever built, at any price, anywhere in the world.

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.

Beside the actual carburetor function, the best carburetor is also:
1. the one you have
2. the one in the best condition
3. the one you know best
4. the cheapest one to buy

I have 1 of each and they both have very little useage but need to be gone through. I am trying to decide on the one that is best to rebuild. It is for a GMC 270 4.4L

If you read Carbking's post carefully, he states Rochester made some of the best 2 and 4v carbs in the world, but he was silent about the single barrel carbs. And also, Zenith was OEM on a 270. If you have the correct Zenith for a 270, I don't think there is much question about which one to use.

Single barrel Rochesters were OK. What gave them a bad name was a model we called the "flat top" where the lid was only half as thick as normal. We had a 55 gal drum almost full of these that had been replaced. These came out around 51.

I think the Zenith will be getting installed...

Thanks for the advice.
