I bought a 36 pickup that had already been torn down, so I have all these parts. Looking at the bed, there are 3 cross members and they don't bolt to the bed only bolt to the frame. So what holds the bed to the frame? Are there assembly manuals out there for a 36 truck? Thank you to anyone taking the time to help me out.

I have a 46 and I am not sure about a 36 but I would guess its not too different. The metal cross pieces bolt to the metal strips between the wood slats and also into the L slats weleded to the bed sides. Some eariler trucks had metal beds. The there are longer bolts that bolt through the wood slats in the bed into a wood spacer block into the frame rail. There were large washers that are punched off center and counter sunk into the wood bed for the carriage bolt head. You might find some exploded views on Brad's Chevy's or some of the parts catalogs. If you look at the end of my photos there is one shot of the bed that might help. http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i470/GWWirth/

Damslick, I have a '36 pickup that I restored in the early 1970s. If you need pictures of the pickup box mounting I may be able to help. Is yours going to be a street rod? I ask because I'm looking for a spare empty 3-speed transmission case.

I don't look at the stovebolt forum much any more. You can contact me at my regular email [email protected]

GWWirth, your truck is very nice. I have just one question. did you replace the wood? if so, how did you fit the doors and drill the new holes for the hinges? i'm not sure how to mark the holes so i get the doors mounted correctly, my old wood was rotten so i couldn't use that for a template and i have to close the doors to get them lined up and by doing that i can't see the holes in the hinges to make a mark for drilling. if you or anyone else can help me out i would really be grateful.

I just found your quetion. I am not sure what your trying to do. If you send a photo I might have some suggestions. There are some items called dowel centers that fit into holes and have a point so you can mark a piece by tapping on the wood to locat the centers. I have a 46 and I don't have any wood near hinges. I am a wood worker more than a old truck expert so if you have wood questions I might be able to help.

If you give me your email address I'll give info on a place in Portland Oregon that rebuilt my 46 three speed. He told me he has 100's of old tranny's.
