I'm new to stovebolt and new to posting so please bear with me. I just recently acquired a chevy big bolt and not real sure what year it is. I've searched some sites but not sure how to decipher all the numbers and codes. My truck serial number is 3RW-F 5535. I think it is a 1948. The engine code is 0648984F54Y. I think this is a 1954. This is the right place to be if you own some old chevy iron. There is also a forum for BIG BOLTS that I'm sure you'll visit.
Ben, since this is the welcome centre, and not everyone visits here you would be better posting your questions in the best forums like Engine or maybe the General Truck Talk. Theres plenty of knowledge and info on the site and the best folks you'll find anywhere.
Be patient. You'll learn your way around here soon. We all had to do it!!

Oh, there is a vin buster in the tech tips......
EDIT: I checked the vin number and it says your truck was built in June 1948 in St.Louis and is a 2 ton with a 161" wheelbase.
To verify, or learn to check, just go to the tech tips and then scrool down to "how to identify your truck".
