I am in need of a fan blade for my 58'-62' 235. I have found a guy locally who has a few to choose from, a 20" and 17"; both have the same mounting holes that my fan pully does. I'm pretty sure the stock fan size is 17", but since I live in AZ and summers get pretty darn hot, should I get the 20"? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 | How wide is your radiator? You sure don't want the fan to be wider than it is because you will defeat your purpose. My Stock rad on my GMC is around 19 so a 20 fan would be wrong for me. I also live in hot summer country and I'm even considering a shroud later to help in my cooling.

It is more than enough even in the hot weather areas. Unless your an aerodynamicist please don't try to re-invent that which has been professionally engineered. Keep it the same distance from the radiator as original.

So I was correct about the 17" blade being stock size? I have a fan shroud that is 19" in diameter, it was given to me when I bought the truck. Could I use that with that 17" fan, is the the size difference too much? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 257 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 257 | I measured the width of my radiator and it is around 21". So not putting the fan shroud in the equation, it looks like the 19" fan will work, right? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 | One thing that I learned when I installed a shroud on my '55 Bel Aire was that the fan needs to only be located halfway into the shroud for it to work properly. So be sure and do your homework. You may have to use a different spacer or even modify the shroud but they do make a difference if installed correctly.
