There has been lots of discussion on wheels. I've tried searching the threads regarding the Accuride 27775 and 29667 to see if anyone actually uses them. My specific need here is to know if anyone has these on a 1 1/2 ton. There were questions regarding fitment over the brake drums. If anyone uses them will you post a link to some pics? That would be very helpfull.
Thanks all. Fred. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Well, I asked our maintenance guy at work about these 19.5" wheels because they have some older stepvans and he told me today they have them. So he is going to let me borrow one to see if they fit over the drums. Should have some answers this week on the subject. Pics too if anyone is interested. | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | Fred, I am building a 57 cabover and the chassis I am using came with 19.5s. Since the bolt pattern from the new chassis matched the original, I bolted one on and it looked tiny. I searched for some bigger tires and there are really no tall 19.5 tires. 8r-19.5 is the tallest and it is about 34". I ended up with 9r22.5 tires (38")so it looked correct. Just something to think about. I would hate to see you get new wheels and tires and find out they did not look right. I have seen lost of bigger old trucks with smaller tires and they just look funny to me.

To get the bus shorter and to be able to lower it some. I think by doing that it may give me the look I am working for. I'll know more after I get the wheel mounted on the bus. I'll try to do thast this week or Saturday. | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 8 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 8 | Fred, I have them (27775) on my 49 6400 2 ton, they work fine. No problem with the brake drum. I also have 6 for sale on the swap forum. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Hi genweld49, do you have pics of your truck with the 19.5s on it? | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Here are some pics with the wheel mounted on the front axle and set at the correct height in which the bus would ride. The overall height of a 245/70/19.5 is 32" so I set the center of the wheel at 16". I wish I had a tire on there to set it down and see, but I really think this and then lowering the bus some will give it a good look. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 . | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 | You should find one with a tire and see, looks like it'll be a lot of fender opening for a small tire. | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 66 | I have a 1950 4400 and the 19.5's did NOT fit over my rear drums. I ended up putting a disk brake Dana 70HD in the back of mine,, so there are years that these don't fit over the rear drum.

I might have a picture of it on mine or just in the opening. I'll check tonight and see if I have it. I would think our wheel openings are about the same size. If you were not so far away I would let you barrow one of my 19.5 with a tire. mine are 32" tall. | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 |

Mike B | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Buggy, Got the pic and it does look somewhat small. I think what I'll need to do is get a tire mounted on this wheel like Griggs suggests, put it on the bus and see what looks like. I can then measure how much room I'll have to allow it to be lowered to get a 1"-2" rake in it for a hotrod look. We'll see. Thanks for your pic and for your input guys. | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | I know a guy that's cutting the wheel opening off of a pick up fender and welding it to the LCF fender to get the "right look" with the smaller tires. Mike B | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 199 | I know someone who is doing it also. If it was lowered it might not look too bad. I believe big bolts should have big tires | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 . | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 | ...I believe big bolts should have big tires I'm with you there! While we're on the subject. fclaridge, don't you already have a set of 22.5's? (Now if you don't intend to use them I'd be glad to make arrangements to come pick them up, probably in May or so??) Grigg | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Well, I found and am getting some 19.5s. I will get them tomorrow, all with 8R19.5 tires. That's 1.4 inches taller than a low pro tire, but 4.5" lower than the 9R22.5s on there now. I'll get them mounted on Saturday and see what they look like and post some pics. If I like them and they allow for me to do more with the ride height and rake I am looking for then I will surely be selling my 22.5s. More later... | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,276 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,276 | Fred you should give consideration to your gear ratio as well the smaller tires will slow you down and cause your engine to have to rev higher. You will most likely find it necessary to change the rear end as well to run the shorter tires. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | I guess I had that part in the back of my mind somewhere, but can deal with that at a later date. However, what options are there for changing out the gears? Are there gear sets available to do a quick swap? Or do I see another challenge in my future if I have to go that route? | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 | It will most likely require changing the rear end to something more modern to get a gear ratio that is faster. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Ok, got the wheels on and here's a pic. Eventhough they are smaller than the 22.5s I think I like it. There is 6.5" in the rear from the top of the tire to the bottom of the wheelwell so I can go another 2" lower in back and 4" from the top of the tire to the bottom lip in the front, giving me at least 3-4" more to lower. That will fill the fender opening and give me a more hotrod look. I know this look isn't for everyone, but that's the look I am going for. Thoughts?

In the pic you posted of the rear drum fitting inside the wheel on the first page of this thread, http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m290/fclaridge/195Wheel7.jpg is there enough clearance there between the drum and wheel to allow air flow over the drum to keep it cool or allow it to expand? Thanks.
