The number cast into the block is 3849852.
Can someone tell me please what information comes up with that number?
and
I would like to change out the 3 on the tree and install this powerglide.
Is there a certain crossmember I need to be able to use this trans in a 64 C10 short stepper and could someone suggest a floor shifter I should buy?
I picked up a tilt steering from a motor home already.

It is in fact NOT a 327 as I was told but a 283 from a car/truck application. Can't be any more specific than that I guess.
And yes Squeeze I do know I need a cross member. The question is, which crossmember do I need? Out of what vehicle? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | you can get more specific if there's still a stamped number on the pad at the front bottom of the right side head, or you locate the date code on the block .... you need a universal trans mount cross member from a store or the factory [riveted on] one for a 60's light truck, doubt you'll find one from anything else that would work properly without some engineering and more work than it's worth | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 51 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 51 | I looked at the motor once again and at the back of the block, on top where the trans bolts up is a C16 with the number 3 above it.
The number 3252 and the letters HB are cast onto the block also.
If that helps identify the engine a little better I would appreciate some information.
I'll run around the junk yards and see if I can scare up an auto trans crossmember, but I don't like my chances. | | |
