For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 138 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 138 | Hey guys, looking at this truck: http://marshall.craigslist.org/cto/2635675109.htmlThe guy that has it is VERY firm on the price. It looks good from the pictures.. He said the motor starts and runs, but runs kinda rough. He told me today that when he moved it out front today, it was smokin white. I plan to do a diesel swap, so the motor condition is not a big kicker. I guess I just want to see if you guys think it's worth the $650 he is asking for it? I'm set to go get it Tuesday, and am prepared to pay what he's asking..... But I'd like to know if you guys think I should take or pass..... Thanks!

white smoke is probably due to cold conditions/moisture.... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,232 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,232 | Looks to be an un-molested truck which would make it a great truck to start with and at $650, that's almost like buying it at scrap prices. If you have interest in that style truck you should jump on it. If after a while you decide it's not for you, you won't loose any money if you re-sell it. Good luck! Take $650 cash with you. Try haggling on the price, you never know. Good price either way.

The first thing I would do when I got it home is convert it totally back to 6 volt. It looks very clean!! In my book original is the best way to go. If you put a lot of power in it you still have 45MPH running gear and brakes. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 | I'd go ahead and keep the Alternator if it's a decent installation. There's not a lot left to do. Headlight bulbs (I always go with sealed beam Halogens.),dash light, tail and marker light and dome light bulbs, horn, and resistors for the gas gauge and heater motor. Or you could probably use a later heater motor. Might even be able to use the stock gas gauge too;I don't remember changing one when going six to twelve volt. The price is certainly right. Looks like a pretty solid truck, and the dump parts are an added plus.
