Is anyone familiar with the Mallory Unilite distributor? I have one on my 51 Chevy with a 350, it was on it when I bought it. I have chased a skip or miss in this thing for a couple of days. I thought I found it when I found a bad plug wire but it still skips. It sounds like a steady and regular missfire. Will the Unilite ignition module cause it to skip or does it just go out all at once with no fire at all???? thanks!! Mitchell

If it,s electronic it,s not likely to miss on only one cyl. If a plug wire was open it very likely has burned the dist cap. Take a hard look inside for carbon tracks. Kind of look like a jagged pencil mark. The plug could be fouled from not fireing.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I have one on my 57' BelAir engine and it either works or doesn't work. I agree with Wrenchbender, it's all or nothing with most electronic gadgets ans all indications are that the Unilite is no different.

How obvious will that crack in cap be? Do I look with a magnifying glass or just with good light? If cracked, is that a special cap for the Unilite or does regular cap work? As you can tell this is my first experience with a Unilite. thanks Mitchell

Could very well be a burned cap. It can also be a burned rotor. I had mine do that. You willneed to get a cap and rotor for a Unilite, standard parts do not fit. Any mallory dealer can get them for you.
One more thing. From my own experience, if you have the one without the vacuum advance, give it a little more advance on the base timing. I found that mine was much happier with 15 degrees advance over the stock setting.
