I haven't found in the manuals if the '54 235's used the large or small journal camshafts.

Can I tell what my truck has without pulling the cam?

If not, what's it likely to be, small or large, forged or cast?

Thanks

Early 54 had small, late had large.
The easiest way to tell is to pull the distributor and look at the drive gear on the cam. Early cams have a 1/2" wide approximately gear and a late cam has a 5/8" approximately wide gear. See pic #29 in this LINK
