Here is one way to get tunes in your ride. Use a 12 volt cassette radio with the a pot on each side. Remove the cover, unscrew the pots and pull the wires or ribbon cables outward. Cut holes in the cover to accommodate the wires. A radio with a U shaped cover is easier to modify. A radio with a flat cover may need to be completely dismantled to get the sides off. Use a radio hole plug for the mounting bracket. Cut a hole in it for the radio front. Screw the bracket to the radio chassis, these screws will be behind the dash. The pot shafts will secure this assembly to the dash. Add spacers between the bracket and the radio to set the radio back, so the knobs are close to the dash.

This is great information, please re-size your photos so that we can get a good look.

Yes, your link di work, but I would have put in an older style CD player so you di not get the light show like what's on the newer one's. Just my $0.02 though. Looks great though! How di you manage to fit that in there? Did you have to move arund anything under the dash?

I wish the PO on my truck had done this, but NOOOOOOO, he decided to take a tin snips and just cut a hole in the dash for his radio to fit. I have the old part of the dash before I put the replacement in as a souvenir.

What to do, and then what NOT to do! Nice job!

Is anyone reproducing the radio delete plate?

Seems I've seen them offered somewhere....I think. Expensive though if I remember correctly.
And ad in the swap meet will probably turn one up for you.

Someone recently asked about modifying an old radio to get FM in their truck, and I remembered this old post. I just discovered the picture links are dead, so here are the pictures. I used a stereo with knobs, probably '80's vintage. Pull the potentiometers out of the chassis. Modify the radio delete panel. I ran it this way for years. The original radio is big, so there is plenty of room behind the dash.

Modern radios usually look like a JC Whitney blob dropped in the middle of the dash. We "French" a mount plate for the exact radio used and it gives a much smoother look. Many customers have chose this option but it needs done before dash is finished/painted.
