For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 | I bought a 54 chevy truck 3100 and it had a open drive rear end . I took the rear end to a driveline shop today and im trying to find out what year it is . Im think its either a 551st or 55nd series rear end . they told me it has 4.11 gears and the number on it is AG206 . Im hoping its the 2nd series rear end so i can run the 3.38 gears . heres a pic of the rear end. http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b212/espinoza720/?action=view¤t=a4616f3d.jpg

If there is evidence that spring perches have been removed from the top of the housing it will be the later one. Either way the 3.38s should fit. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 | i want to make sure the 3.38s will work before i buy them | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 | well just bought the 3.38 gears and installation kit i hope it will work | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | It's a '55 2nd w/4.11 gears, according to the code.
