Hey Mike-

I also have a 55 3/4 ton-235. I hate the clunky
wheel hubs etc...I'm in the middle of a total truck re-build..I bought a 1/2 ton axel on Ebay
with spindles..I haven't put the 1/2 axel on yet but once I do I can either go with 1/2 ton gear or better yet some 5 lug disc brakes for a wider selection of wheels..if that's not what you're after disregard all of the above.. grin

Any big truck tire center will have no problem changing split rim tires. They would probably go out of business here in Oregon if they didn't. I saw a lot of truck junkyards north of Denver, but I don't know where you are in Colorado.

Ford 3/4-1 ton VAN rims-pre 2000 will work. You'll need 3/16" shims on the front, but otherwise, they're fine. They are 16"x7 and very common.

Search 8-lug rims here.... I have some trailer wheels on my truck. They fit well and look good. Not the spoked ones, mine are steel. Use chrome acorn nuts.

Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice)
\'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run.
My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

Highflyer, I've heard of people finding trailer wheels that fit. They generally are not as wide as the Dodge, Chevy and Ford truck wheels and they also generally are made with Zero offset which is what we need to clear the stock front tierods. I've looked for a long time for new trailer wheels, i.e., Google, etc., and haven't had any luck, where did you find them? Do your stock hub caps fit the center well enough that you can install the retainer clips?
Like to see a picture if possible.

What Tlorber actually means is a wheel spacer plate. It's a plate of a given thickness, 3/16" in this case, that's drilled for the wheel studs. It's used to space the wheel out to allow for clearance. You should be able to get them from anyone that sells custom wheels. Make sure to check stud length with whatever wheel you decide to use, as there needs to be enough thread engagement to retain the wheel. You'll want the stud to at least go completely throught the nut by about 3-4 threads.

No, I do not suggest using washers of any kind to space out wheels. The wheels need to be flush with the mounting surface for proper clamping. I've seen guys try to do that with washers, only to lose the wheel from the vehicle.
I did a quick check, ARE lists a 1/4" spacer in their catalog for abour $7 each. Any ARE dealer can get them for you, or you can go to their online store. Here's a pic of the spacers. http://store.nexternal.com/shared/S...;CategoryID=2054&Target=products.asp

Tried to find the thread with all the info. My wheels are 16x6, zero offset. Believe they are by Hayes-Lemurz. Got them from Kal Yire in Edmonton, but they are common enough.

Tks flyer, Found Hayes-Lemmerz and their catalog but it looks like the only wheels that they make are modern European stylized wheels with the lightening holes around the out side of the center. None have the solid rim that look like the originals.
Is their another line of wheels that they make or is this the type of wheel that you have on your truck?

.... my 3/4 ton has a 15" rim. Old 7.00-15 tires on the baby. Doesn't go fast enough to worry about the lock rings. I think tire store said a LT225/70R15 ) was the current size for the 7.00-15

Well..I am haveing no luck with my rim problem. I need 6.5 wide rims..I have 7.5 and they are hitting my tie rod. The rims I have are split rims that are on the truck..Should I just keep the split rims..Or does anyone know where I can purchase 6.5 8 lug rims..Nothing costom..or fancy..Just stock..or something simple that will not cost me 4,000 dollars
