The engine is a 1957 Pontiac 347 . Does it have a Hydramatic transmission?

Put m255ko38183 in the VIN BUSTER and you will see this is a 1955 Chevrolet 3200 (3/4 ton)

GMC used Pontiac engines. My 59 engine is painted red. I think they are good engines.

"Strato-Flight" was Pontiac's name for the Hydra-Matic transmission. It's a 4-speed automatic with direct drive in 4th. gear and a fluid coupling, not a torque converter. The parking lock is engaged by puting the shifter into Reverse with the engine stopped. The Pontiac V-8 was used as original equipment in GMC trucks, not Chevrolets. Tubular headers are usually good for raising the underhood temperature, leaking exhaust gas at the header-to-cylinder head gaskets, and burning spark plug wires. The only place they give a measureable power gain is at high RPM, so unless you're planning to do a lot of full-throttle running, I believe the problems aren't worth the gains.

spanners, I mis-spoke. Your truck is a 3200 and that's the designation for the 1/2 ton long bed. 123" wheel base The 3100 was 113' wheel base 1/2 ton short bed

Wouldn't the GMC model be a 100? Equal to a Chevrolet 3200?
