I'm not sure how to prep it for my first coat of primer. I have sanded on it with some 100 grit, which knocks the rust off but it isn't the shinny metal I want to see. I used 60 grit for the heavy stuff by hand, but I preferred using a sanding wheel with my angle grinder for the bulk of the work.
