Oil filler cap, valve cover cap, breather cap, whatever you call it- I bought one from one of the aftermarket houses. It is "bright", but not chrome, and by no means is attempting to pass for an original style. (Hencho in Mexico for Gates.)

Can anyone point me to a photo of an original style cap?

Is it painted? If so, what color?

Thanks,
Bill

same color as the valve cover, gray .... maybe the 'bright' you got is just clean steel with some kind of clear coat?

It's just stamped steel over a filter screen. Oddly, when I google for Gates Oil Breather Cap Chevrolet, I get this item. It looks pretty much like what I received from the reproduction house, but not very "period."

I'll paint it- it looks odd being the only bright thing under the hood besides the metal fuel lines.

Thanks again.

Bill
