I managed to break the oil disptick for my 1951 Chevy 216 engine. Can't seem to find one in any of the usual catalogs (Chevs of the 40's, Classic Parts, etc.). Any idea where I can buy one?

Thanks,
Marc

Maybe a junkyard.

Is there some reason you can't fix your old one?

I may try to weld it back together. But now afraid that if I do that, it may again break and a piece will fall into the block.

You could probably braze it.

Why did it break in the first place, bending back and forth as it is taken out and put back in?

i have a 51 3100 myself. i have taken the 216 out and put 235 in.while chroming up the motor i could not find anything in the old truck books so i went to napa and got a chrome dipstick and tube, package, pulled the tube out and put the knew one in.measured the old stick and marked the knew one. put same gasket sealer on tube and it is in there. hope this helps. i do have the tube and stick from the 235 that you could have if you dont like the napa idea

Gents, thanks for the input.

Kurt_51Carryall - don't really know how I broke it. Pulled it out to check oil level, went to put it back in and noticed it was just hanging on. Buddy of mine is working on fixing it (welding or brazing, not sure).

Guyyoung - Thanks for the offer. Greatly appreciate it. Really nice guy named Brad on this site is providing me with an original dipstick for a 216 engine. I'll now have the one from Brad and hopefully mine repaired and ready to go as a backup.

Thanks,
Marc

Glad it's getting fixed. I'd interested in knowing how he fixed it.

Kurt
