Can someone tell me where the filler port is? what i thought was the filler port ended up spewing out a bunch of oil. i keep looking in books and online and can't find it. i still have "new guy" syndrome i guess.

If the vehicle hasn't been driven in a while, pull the bottom plug and see if there's water under the grease. It only takes about 3 quarts for a complete refill so it won't break the budget to do a drain and refill.

That transmission has a tendency to dribble fluid out onto the clutch shaft so the level is important. I found 85W140 seems to work best for mine and it was rebuilt last year. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 835 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 835 | I fill mine by removing the floor pan, then removing the fill plug, (which is about 1/2 way up on the passenger side), then remove the gearshift, (by rotating the bayonet lock thing and pulling the gearshift out) and pouring the oil into the gearshift mount until it starts to run out the fill hole on the side.
If you have two people, you don't have to remove the floor pan.
If you have a pump and a lift, you don't have to remove the gearshift or the floorpan.
If you have a funnel with a long flexible snout, you can fill it from the side fill hole after removing the floor pan and the fill hole plug.

They run about $10.
