I have a 1959 Apache with the original 283 V8
But I don't think the Carburetor is???
It has a two barrel WGD Carter that is missing the Choke pullback linkage. Have not had any success in locating one.
So I was going to attempt to make one?
I need the length measurements for this linkage
Are any of you guys using this Carburetor?
TAG# #4479S it is a manual choke with a four bolt spread bore on the intake.
Thanks,
Any help would be appreciated
Barry

4479s was a replacement carburetor. Excellent carburetors, but the replacements used different parts than Carter's O.E. units. Even repair kits for the replacements are pricey.

I don't see anything missing in the picture; what part do you need?

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.

The linkage that is circled
When I finished cleaning it I threw the Lacquer thinner in a 40 foot brush pile along with the
linkage.Bone head move sick for days now and
have fallen in the brush pile twice almost snake bit once and cannot burn the brush pile because of a no burn ordinance.A real pickel!
I was hoping I could buy one from someone or a
Whole carburetor for spare parts.
Thanks,
Barry

My guess would be that this piece is unique to the 4479s. Carter didn't issue parts sheets on these units, so no easy way to tell.

You have three options:

(A) Look for a junk 4779s to rob parts (this is the first one I have seen in 40 years, they are not real common).

(B) Take the assembled carb with to you to swap meets and look for other WGD carbs (used on several 1950's vehicles) and hope the linkage is the same.

(C) Fabricate the piece. You have a good picture for length. Find a slightly longer piece of linkage the proper diameter from a junk carb; and bend it in the center. The angle of the bend will allow you to adjust the length until you get it right.

Jon.
