I haven't found a thread to help me. I'm trying to remove my gauge clusters on my 54 chevy 3600. There isn't alot of room to work or see. There are the 3 tabs holding them in. My question is, is that a nut on the end of the screws that needs to be turned to remove, or just a push on tab over the screws. I can't really see and i can't tell by touch. They are rusted up and i don't want to get midevel on them just yet, was hoping someone could help guide me.

There are three nuts holding each gauge cluster to the dash. You may need to apply penetrating oil to the threads. Once you remove the nuts, the gauge cluster can removed from inside the dash. Prior to removing anything from under the dash, disconnect the battery.

Easy way is to remove the radio speaker cover and slid you're arm in from there instead of working from under the dash.

Hmm, mine does not have a radio.

A 1954 truck dash is the subject at hand. There are radio speaker grill openings in the dash (no cover). There is no opening in the dash when there is no radio in place.

I pulled mine out yesterday. Use a nut driver to remove the nuts holding the clusters to the dash ... a lot easier than a wrench or ratchet with extension. Remove the ign switch. Remove the speedo first. You can reach through the opening to access the other cluster. Disconnect the oil pressure tube. The temp gauge tube doesn't disconnect from the gauge. Label all wires as you remove them. I was surprised that the clusters were easier to remove than I expected.
