The ones I have tested have one wire and one cable which operates a hi/lo/park switch "inside" the unit. The one wire is the hot and the case is GND. The Maintenance manual shows one wire. Post a picture, maybe it is not a 59 unit? If 59 is different than manual, this is my guess:, one terminal would be hi, one low and one park if case is ground. This would mean you would have a switch on the dash not a knob and cable setup. But according to the manual, it is not a 55-59 unit.

One to ignition switched pos and one to wiper switch. A third wire may be for washer or 2 speed? One diagram says white to wiper switch and pink to ign switched pos. Do the wires have these colors? I think the picture from squeeze shows a yel and a blk. But they may not be pigtail leads just assy interconnects. Someone who has a 58/59 shop manual may post the info. Good luck.
